Sarah Whitney Finishes 12th at the Tina Barrett Invitational

FARMVILLE, VA - William and Mary freshman Sarah Whitney (Hingham, Mass.) was one of the few players in the field at the Tina Barrett Invitational to improve her position on Tuesday, rising to finish 12th overall as her team steadied in the seventh spot. Ball State won the team title by five strokes over host-school Longwood, and also boasted the individual medalist in Brittany Kelly, who won in a playoff with James Madison’s Kelly Lynch.

Final Results

Whitney posted the team’s best round of the day with her80, finishing with a total of 159 (+15), seven strokes behind the leaders. Classmate Avi Hockfield (Gladwyne, Pa.) also finished in the top-20, tying for 20th after shooting 82 Tuesday. Senior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) finished in a tie for 34th, and freshman Katie Murphy (Chesapeake, Va.) improved three strokes between rounds to shoot 85 and tie for 42nd. Senior Misha Harvey (Forest, Va.) rounded out the Tribe’s effort in a tie for 62nd.

William and Mary travels down to Wallace, North Carolina, next Monday and Tuesday for the Lady Seahawk Invitational.
