Men’s Track and Field Posts Four All-Time Marks in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - William and Mary’s men’s track and field team had a great weekend at the Lou Onesty Invitational in Charlottesville, earning four all-time top-10 performances in the final tune-up before next week’s conference championships.

Complete Results

On Friday night, the hammer throwing crew had a couple of huge personal-record throws. Sophomore Brandon Oliver (Richmond, Va.) topped his lifetime-best by nine feet with a throw of 162’ 6”, a performance that leads the conference this season and ranks him eighth all-time at the College. Classmate Alex Ball (Winchester, Va.) threw 151’ 9” to set a 10-foot personal best and rank 11th on the College’s all-time top-performers list.

Junior Alex Heacock (Lititz, Pa.) also set a personal-best, launching the javelin 196’ 6” to take second and qualify for the IC4A Championships. Heacock added six inches to his lifetime-best, and ranks fifth in school history. Redshirt-freshman Dan Klatzkin (Gaithersburg, Md.) added more than eight feet to his personal-best in the discus, falling just shy of the IC4A-qualifying standard with his throw of 153’ 4”. He becomes only the ninth athlete in school history to surpass 150 feet, and ranks seventh all-time at the College.

Freshman Chris McIntosh (Owings Mill, Md.) dipped below 55 seconds in the 400m hurdles for the first time this season, running 54.84 for sixth place in the day’s race and to become the ninth-fastest hurdler in school history. Friday night, sophomore Cabell Rosanelli (Richmond, Va.) ran 4:12.72 for fifth place in the invitational mile, a time which converts to 3:54.02 for 1,500m.

In the 3,000m steeplechase, senior Bryce Wilk (Millbrook, N.Y.) ran 9:27.03 to earn runner-up honors. Freshman Pete Asaro (Gloucester, Mass.) was third, running 9:45.70, and classmate Paul Norland (Falls Church, Va.) took fifth in 9:56.30.

William and Mary returns to Williamsburg next Friday and Saturday to host the CAA Championships, where the team will be looking for its fifth conference title.
