Men’s Tennis Seeded No. 2 at CAA Championship

The Tribe will meet the winner of Delaware and George Mason on Friday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m.

Richmond, Va. - The William and Mary men’s tennis team garnered the No. 2 seed in the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Tennis Championship slated for April 17-20 at the Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va. The Tribe will face the winner of No. 7 seed Delaware and No. 10 seed George Mason at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18.

The College wrapped up the 2008 regular season with a doubleheader split against No. 65 South Alabama and Howard. The split left the Tribe with a 14-12 overall record, including a 4-1 ledger in the CAA. W&M owns CAA wins over Old Dominion (5-2), defending champion Georgia State (5-2), James Madison (7-0) and George Mason (7-0). The lone setback for the Green and Gold came at VCU, 5-2.

The semifinals of the CAA Championship are slated for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, with the title tilt scheduled for a 10 a.m. start time on Sunday, April 20. The winner of the CAA Championship will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Delaware and George Mason will battled at 2 p.m. on Thursday, while the other first round match will be No. 8 Hofstra versus No. 9 Drexel also at 2 p.m. Old Dominion, the No. 3 seed at the championship, will open quarterfinal action with No. 6 James Madison at 9 a.m. on Friday. The top-seed VCU will face the winner of Hofstra and Drexel at 2 p.m., while No. 4 UNC Wilmington faces No. 5 Georgia State at 3:30 p.m.

Last season, the College was seeded No. 3 at the CAA Championship and fell in the semifinals to Old Dominion after an opening round victory over James Madison. The Tribe last won the CAA Championship in 2005.
