Katie Guevel Named CAA Track Athlete of the Week

Freshman Set Two School Records Over the Weekend

RICHMOND, VA - The Colonial Athletic Association took a break from filing tax returns today to honor its final set of Track and Field Athletes of the Week before the conference championships this weekend. William and Mary completed a perfect season of sorts when freshman Katie Guevel (Burlington, Kans.) was selected as the final Track Athlete of the Week, as the Tribe had at least one honoree after every meet in the outdoor season.

Guevel earned her third athlete of the week award after breaking a pair of school records at the Lou Onesty Invitational, both of which were nearly as old as she is. She took third in the 100m hurdles in 14.01, qualifying for the ECAC Championships and surpassing the time of 14.20 seconds set by Lisa Harding in 1990. Guevel also finished third in the 200m dash with an ECAC-qualifying time of 24.90, bettering DeTrease Harrison’s 24.98 run in 1989. Not just a fast runner, Guevel also threw the javelin a personal best 122’ 11”, placing ninth in the event and also ranking ninth all-time on the College’s top performer’s list.

Guevel and the rest of the Tribe host the CAA Championships this weekend, April 18-19, at Zable Stadium and the Stimson Throwing Events Area.
