Five Tribe Players Receive All-CAA Accolades

Newport News, Va. - Senior Alex Cojnau led the way for the William and Mary men’s tennis team at the annual Colonial Athletic Association Awards Banquet, taking home first-team all-league honors in both singles and doubles. Junior Dominic Pagon and sophomore Keziel Juneau were both First-Team All-CAA doubles players, while the team of senior Kavi Sud and freshman Sebastien Vidal took home third-team honors.

Cojnau became the fifth Tribe player in school history to garner First-Team All-CAA singles honors on multiple occasions during his career. He is also the fifth W&M player to receive all-league honors three times over his career. In singles action, Cojnau tallied 15 wins this season and owns a career mark of 76-58. His singles wins total ranks 10th in Tribe history. Cojanu currently is ranked No. 121 nationally in the ITA computer rankings released on April 13.

For the second straight season, the Tribe led the way with two doubles teams on the All-CAA First Team. The duo of Cojanu and Juneau garnered first-team accolades, while Cojnau teamed with Pagon to comprise another first-team pair. Cojanu was also a part of both All-CAA First Team doubles pairs last year, including one of the two with Juneau. Co-janu and Juneau are currently ranked No. 33 nationally in the ITA doubles standings and own a 10-8 doubles ledger. The duo defeated a trio of top-25 ranked teams this season.

Cojanu and Pagon comprise a First-Team All-CAA doubles pair as well. The tandem is 4-4 on the year and owns a trio of victories over nationally ranked doubles teams. The All-CAA honor is the first of Pagon’s career. The first-team honors mark the third season in Cojanu’s career that he has garnered first-team all-league honors in doubles. He is only the third Tribe player, joining Trevor Spracklin and Geoff Russell, to earn first-team honors during three seasons. Co-janu currently ranks second in W&M history with 96 career doubles victories.

The W&M duo of Sud and Vidal garnered Third-Team All-CAA honors. The tandem is 14-4 on the year and owns the most doubles wins by a Tribe pair this season. Sud and Vidal won 11 of their first 12 matches as a team, including six straight in February and March. The duo clinched the critical doubles point in the College’s 4-3 upset of then-No. 34 ranked Notre Dame in South Bend. Vidal’s 26 doubles wins this season and his 78.8 percent doubles winning percent-age both rank second on the W&M freshman record lists, while Sud’s 18 doubles wins are a career best.

W&M will return to action in the CAA Quarterfinals, Friday, April 18, at the Huntington Park Tennis Center in New-port News, Va. The No. 2 seed Tribe will face No. 7 seed Delaware, a 4-0 winner over No. 10 George Mason on Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. The winner will get a semifinal date with either No. 3 Old Dominion or No. 6 James Madison at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. The CAA Championship Match is slated for 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 20. The winner of the league title will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
