Brent Paladino Shoots School-Record 65 (-6) in Second Round at CAA Championships

WILLIAMSBURG - First-Team All-CAA honoree Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) had the lowest round of the day, his career, and William and Mary’s history of golf since 1965 Saturday in the second round of the Colonial Athletic Association championships, carding a 6-under 65 to vault up the standings to third. The Tribe followed its leader’s play, improving from seventh to fourth at +22, only six strokes out of second. Georgia State grabbed control of the tournament with a 4-under round to stand 15 strokes clear of the field, and CAA Player of the Year Joel Sjoholm leads the individual board by three strokes at 9-under.

Paladino’s 65 tied the school record 65 (-6) shot by Billy Musto almost exactly 26 years ago, April 20, 1982. It also tied Sjoholm’s first-round 65 as the best round of the championships, and both men are tied for the third-best round in championship history. Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) is tied for ninth after shooting 75 on Saturday, and junior Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) chipped in a round of 76 (+5) to finish the day tied for 27th. Freshman Brandon Parker (Auburn, Mass.) also shot 76, improving six strokes between rounds to move up to a tie for 48th. Senior Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) rounds out the team in 52nd.

William and Mary will tee off for the final push for the conference title Sunday starting at 10:26 a.m., on the first hole of the Gold Course.
