Brent Paladino Ties School Record, Finishes Second at CAA Championships

WILLIAMSBURG - Under leaden skies and intermittent showers Sunday the William and Mary men’s golf team played out the final act of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, holding off a charge from VCU to finish fourth at 25-over par (877). Georgia State won its second title handily, shooting a 9-under 843 to defeat Old Dominion and the field by 25 strokes. The Panthers’ Joel Sjoholm finished his tournament at 12-under to win the individual medal and Most Outstanding Performer trophy.

Junior Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) followed his second-round 65 with a final effort of 69 (-2) today, moving into second place and earning his second All-Tournament team accolade. His three-day total of 207 (-6) tied the school record that he set in the first tournament of the year back in September. Paladino is the first Tribe golfer to finish second or higher at the conference championships since John McHenry was second in 1986.

Classmate Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) also shot 69, improving 14 places to a tie for 13th at +7 (220). Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) finished tied for 27th, and freshman Brandon Parker (Auburn, Mass.) shot an even-par 71 to improve from 48th to a tie for 36th. Senior Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) closed out his career with a round of 78, finishing in 50th place.
