Katie Radloff Named Mid-Major All-American for Second Time

SOMERS, WISC - William and Mary sophomore Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) was one of 30 women named today to the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major All-American team, repeating her selection from one year ago. Princeton’s Alicia Aemisegger was named the Mid-Major Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Radloff was also named the Outstanding Swimmer of the Championships by the Colonial Athletic Association and the CAA Swimmer of the Year, both for the second time. She qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles after sweeping those three events at the CAA Championships, achieving automatic qualifying times in both the 50 and 100. At NCAAs, Radloff had the fastest swim of her life in the preliminaries of the 100 freestyle, placing 20th in 48.91. In all but the last two years, that time would have placed her among the top eight nationally.

Junior Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.) was also honored today with selection to the Honorable Mention Mid-Major All-American team. Falcone set the school and conference records in the 500 freestyle in the finals of the Terrapin Cup Invitational in November, swimming 4:51.15 to provisionally qualify to the NCAA Championships for the first time. Falcone also achieved an NCAA “B” time at the CAA Championships, timing 1:50.28 to win the consolation finals of the 200 freestyle.

The Mid-Major All-America teams were created three years ago as a way of honoring swimmers from schools and conferences that achieve national success without the benefits of BCS-level funding. Members of the team are selected on the basis of competing at the NCAA Championships, while athletes who have achieved an NCAA provisional qualification but were not invited to the meet are named to the Honorable Mention team.
