Moulton-Levy Name CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player

Richmond, Va. - William and Mary senior women’s tennis player Megan Moulton-Levy continued to add to her list of career accomplishments at the College as she garnered the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Most Outstanding Player Award, the league office announced on Tuesday. By a vote of the conference’s head coaches, the four-time Tribe All-American became the first women’s tennis player in the history of the CAA to receive the MOP of the CAA Championship three times in her career.

Moulton-Levy also joined an elite list of CAA athletes from any sport to garner the conference’s highest honor to player at the league championship. She also received the accolade during the College’s championship seasons in 2005 and 2007. Moulton-Levy became one of nine athletes in CAA history to receive the honor on three occasions over her career. The list of three-time winners includes UNCW’s Brett Blizzard (men’s basketball - 2000, 2002, 2003), Old Dominion’s Shareese Grant (women’s basketball – 2003, 2004, 2005), James Madison’s Carole Tate (field hockey – 1993, 1994, 1995), George Mason’s Tom Koucheravy (men’s swimming and diving – 2005, 2006, 2007) and Morielle Ahoure (women’s track and field – 2006, 2007, 2008), and VCU’s Daniel Andersson (men’s tennis – 1998, 1999, 2000). Both Old Dominion’s Marina DiGiacomo (field hockey – 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000) and Mary Kay Bolduc (women’s swimming and diving – 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999) won their respective sports conference championship most outstanding player award during all four years of their collegiate careers.

The Tribe captured its 20th CAA crown in the 23-year history of the league on April 20 thanks to a 4-0 victory over No. 35-ranked VCU. W&M downed James Madison, 4-0, in the quarterfinals, before disposing of Georgia State, 4-0, in the semifinals. Moulton-Levy went 2-0 at the league championship in both singles and doubles to bring her career totals at the CAA Championship to 8-0 at the No. 1 singles position and 9-1 at the No. 1 doubles slot.

On April 17 at the annual CAA Awards Banquet, Moulton-Levy was named the conference player of the year for the fourth time in her career, becoming the second women’s tennis player to accomplish the feat and fourth CAA athlete overall. The Monroe Mich., native was also named First-Team All-CAA in both singles and doubles for the fourth time in her collegiate career.

This season, Moulton-Levy sports a 28-6 singles ledger and a 27-7 doubles mark. With her win totals this season, she established a new W&M school record for both career doubles wins (122) and career combined – singles and doubles – wins (243). In fact, she bettered the school mark for combined wins in the CAA Championship match with her doubles victory against VCU. Moul-ton-Levy is currently ranked No. 11 nationally in singles and along with junior Katarina Zoricic, is ranked No. 11 in doubles as well.

Moulton-Levy will go down as one of the most decorated players in Tribe history. Her four-time All-America status ranks second in school history, and with a pair of All-America nods this season, she could equal the program mark held by Lauren Nikolaus. Moulton-Levy also owns a national championship, having won the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship with Zoricic in November of 2006, before the duo finished as the national runner-ups at the NCAA Individual Doubles Championship in May of 2007.

The Green and Gold will wait to hear their fate in the NCAA Championships with the team bracket being released on April 29 and the individual championship selections being set on April 30. The NCAA Regionals will be played May 9-11 at campus sites. The NCAA Team and Individual Championships will be played May 16-26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
