Tribe Lax Prepares to Host ODU;

Wiliamsburg, Va. - The College of William and Mary’s 20th-ranked women’s lacrosse team is preparing to host Colonial Athletic Association rival Old Dominion on Thursday evening (7:00 pm) in what will be the most crucial home contest of the season for the Tribe. A win over the Monarchs would secure both the No. 1 seed and home field advantage for the College in the upcoming CAA Championships (May 2nd and 4th).

The Tribe (8-8, 4-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play) is coming off a weekend that saw them record a pair of conference wins, including an upset of 15th-ranked Towson University, 14-13 (April 18). The effort earned the squad the No. 20 position in the latest IWLCA/Under Armour Division I Weekly Poll (released April 22nd). The College will enter the game with ODU having won its last five home contests. Included in that run of home cooking are three victories over ranked opponents. The Tribe’s last home loss came March 12 against then second-ranked University of Virginia (14-11).

Individually, senior all-American candidate, midfielder Jaime Sellers (Kennebunk, Maine) earned the league’s Player of the Week honors (for the week ending April 20th). Sellers played a major role in helping the College to the conference wins over the weekend. The senior co-captain started her week off with a four-goal effort in the team’s upset win over Towson. In the game with the Tigers’, Sellers also gathered give draws. In the team’s win over Delaware on Sunday, the midfielder was equally as potent, driving home an additional four goals, while collecting three draws. The eight-goal weekend pushes her league leading total to 56 and moves her into a tie for third-place on the Tribe’s all-time single-season scoring record books (tied with Pixie Hamilton, 1979). She has scored at least one goal in all 16 games of the season for William and Mary.

The last time William and Mary has finished at the top of the CAA was after the 1995 regular season.
