Tribe Volleyball Receives Commitment From Anne Dorff

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary volleyball head coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton has announced a commitment from Anne Dorff to join the Tribe program for the 2008 season.

A native of Kent, Ohio, Dorff was a two-year letterwinner for head coach Missy Christ at Walsh Jesuit High School. She finished her career as the school’s record holder for average blocks per game and ranked third in total blocks.

"Anne is tremendous player who will be able to make an immediate impact on our veteran team,” Shelton said. “She is a terrific blocker with great natural instincts and the physical presence to defend the net very well.”

"Anne will be a leader for our team both on and off the court. She has a dynamic court personality that will be a lot of fun for our fans to watch. She has all the necessary tools to do some pretty special things for Tribe Volleyball."

After an outstanding senior year in which she recorded the second-most total blocks for a season in school history, Dorff was honored as the Akron Touchdown Club Volleyball Player of the Year as well as the Akron Beacon Journal Volleyball Player of the Year. She also garnered Summit-Portage County Player of the Year honors from the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Record Publishing.

A team captain in ’07, Dorff was selected second-team all-state and first-team all-district. While her incredible block statistics were impressive, she also led the team in hitting percentage as a senior.

In addition to her individual accolades, Dorff helped Walsh Jesuit claim Ohio Division II State Runner-Up honors in 2005 and 2006.

Dorff was also a two-year letterwinner with the track team and a member of the 4 X 800 championship unit that tied a school record.
