Harry Miller Unleashes 16-second Personal Best at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - William and Mary junior Harry Miller (Portland, Ore.) shattered his career-fast effort in the 3,000m steeplechase Thursday evening on the first day of the Penn Relay Carnival to lead the Tribe’s efforts. The Penn Relays is considered one of the most prestigious meets in the world.

Complete Thursday Results

Miller ran 8:49.09 in the college championship race for fourth place and to reaffirm his qualification to the NCAA East Regional. His time was an incredible 16-second personal-best, and makes him the fourth-fastest steeplechaser in school history. He is only the fourth athlete ever at W&M to run under 8:50, and the first since Jason Dunn in 1996.

Also in the championship race of the 3,000m steeplechase, CAA Champion Rob Dennis (Little Silver, N.J.) ran 9:09.38 for 12th place and a qualification to the IC4A Championships. In the 5,000m run, junior Charlie Swartz (Manassas, Va.) ran a personal-best 14:21.49 to qualify for IC4As. Senior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.) ran a team season-best 30:27.01 in the 10,000m championship to punch his own ticket to the IC4A Championships.

The Penn Relays continue tomorrow.
