Tribe Frosh Earns League Rookie Honors

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary freshman attacker Ashley Holofcener (Reisterstown, Md.) was named as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week (for week ending April 27) for her eight-point effort in the team’s 19-7 win over Old Dominion on Thursday (April 24th). Holofcener is the third Tribe frosh to be honored by the league this season.

Holofcener’s efforts vs. the Monarchs included a career-high four goals and a team-season best four assists. The Tribe (9-8, 5-2 in CAA) has now had three freshmen honored by the league, as midfielder Grace Golden and goalie Emily Geary (Wayne, Pa.) earned the Rookie of the Week accolades in back-to-back weeks (April 1 and 8th).

With the win over ODU, the Tribe earned the CAA’s No. 1 seed and the right to host this weekend’s league championship. The College will face off against fourth-seeded Delaware (11-5, 4-3 CAA) at 5:00 pm on Friday in one semi-final match-up. The second game will feature No. 2 seed George Mason (12-4, 5-2 CAA) vs. third-seeded Towson (11-5, 5-2 CAA) starting no earlier than 7:30 pm (or no later than 45 minutes after the first semi-final game is complete). All games will be hosted at Albert/Daly Field. Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for youths (ages two through high school senior) and $1 for students with valid college identification.

The tournament will be the first lacrosse championship to be hosted in Williamsburg, while the Tribe will be the top seed for the first time since the 1995 season. The winner of the CAA Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The College has not appeared in the 16-team NCAA field since earning an at-large invitation in 2001.

William and Mary will enter the weekend having won its last six home contests. The Tribe is undefeated in conference play at home (4-0) and has recorded regular season wins over each of the other three teams in the championship field. W&M defeated its first-round opponent, Delaware, 17-13 in Williamsburg on April 20th.
