Tribe Ranked Among Nation’s Top 10 in Five Offensive Statistical Categories

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After scoring 46 runs and posting a .411 team batting average in its three-game conference series at Towson during the weekend, William and Mary is now ranked among the nation’s top 10 in five offensive categories.

The Tribe currently leads the country in doubles (130), while it ranks second in batting average (.347), fourth in hits (541), fifth in slugging percentage (.560) and ninth in runs scored (393). W&M also ranks 19th in stolen bases (84) and 20th in home runs (57). Defensively, the College is ninth in double plays turned with 49.

Individually, Dick Howser Trophy Watch List honoree Mike Sheridan is currently the nation’s leader in hits (81), runs scored (65) and RBI (63). The Washington, D.C., native also ranks second in total bases (143), fourth in doubles (21), seventh in batting average (.443) and 13th in slugging percentage (.781). Last season’s national statistical champion for the toughest player to strikeout, Sheridan ranks 10th this season with just one strikeout in every 22.9 at-bats.

Also a Dick Howser Trophy Watch List honoree, Tim Park currently ranks third nationally in hits (78), while he is fifth in batting average (.446) and total bases (132). He also ranks among the top 20 in doubles. Junior Ben Guez ranks 10th in runs scored with 59.

After going 3-1 last week, which included a victory at No. 16 Virginia, the Tribe currently owns a 32-13 record overall and a 15-8 mark in conference play (third in the CAA standings). With nine games still remaining on its regular-season slate, W&M has already equaled the third-most wins in school history and needs just six more victories to break the program’s record. W&M has also won 16 of its last 19 games.

The Tribe will return to action when it hosts Longwood for a doubleheader on Saturday at Plumeri Park.
