Tribe Hosts 2008 CAA Lacrosse Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The College of William and Mary’s 20th-ranked women’s lacrosse squad will be the proud host of the Colonial Athletics Association Championships this weekend at Albert/Daly Field.

For complete CAA Championship information, please click HERE.

W&M (9-8, 5-2 in CAA) enters the weekend as the championships’ top seed and will be looking to advance to the conference championship for the first time since 2004 (when the Tribe fell to JMU 13-12 in overtime). The last time the College claimed a league title was in 1992, under the guidance of W&M Hall of Fame Head Coach Feffie Barnhill. William and Mary has been the host site for the league championship on one other occasion (1997), but has only played as the top seed on one other occasion (1995).

The action will start tomorrow for the College, as it will face off against the University of Delaware (11-5, 4-3 in CAA) at 5:00 pm. The Tribe handled the Blue Hens, 17-13, in the team’s first meeting this season in a game played in Williamsburg. The two teams have never faced off against each other in the post-season and the College holds an 8-5 all-time advantage in the series.

The winner of the W&M/Delaware tilt will face the victor of Friday's second semi-final game between No. 13 George Mason (12-4, 5-2 CAA) and No. 18 Towson (11-5, 5-2 CAA). The championship game is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm on Sunday (May 4th) at Albert/Daly.

A complete notes package will be available Friday afternoon on the Tribe’s website. For those interested in gaining insight on what has been a remarkable season for the College, click HERE to watch a three-part interview with W&M Head Coach Christine Halfpenny and selected players.
