Kantakevich and Grieve Added to the 2008 Roger Clemens Award Watch List

HOUSTON, Texas - William and Mary seniors Pat Kantakevich and Sean Grieve have been added to the 2008 Roger Clemens Award Watch List. The honor is given annually to the top pitcher in college baseball.

With nine saves this season, Kantakevich currently shares the program’s single-season record with T.P. Waligora (1997). His saves total ranks 19th nationally and leads the Colonial Athletic Association. The Rockville, Md., native also shares the program’s record for career saves (11) with current Cincinnati Reds hurler Bill Bray (2002-04).

Kantakevich has made 26 relief appearances this season and boasts a 4-2 record with 36 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched. Additionally, his has limited opposing hitters to a .227 batting average. The right-handed pitcher has played especially well since mid-March, allowing just six earned runs in his last 34.1 innings pitched for a 1.57 ERA.

Grieve ranks third in the conference with six saves this season and currently owns a 3-0 mark with a 2.76 ERA. The Flourtown, Pa., native has tallied 42 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched and is limiting opposing hitters to a .245 batting average. Additionally, Grieve is tied with Kantakevich with a league-best 26 appearances.

Ten semifinalists for the award will be announced on May 15.

The Tribe will close out its regular-season home slate when it hosts Northeastern for a three-game conference series beginning this Thursday.
