Tribe Falls to Niagara, 1-0

Norfolk, Va. - The William and Mary men’s soccer team fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles at the ODU/Stihl Soccer Classic on Sunday afternoon, 1-0. With the loss, the Tribe falls to 2-2 on the season, while Niagara improves its record to 1-2-1.

In the first half, the College kept attacking the Niagara defense, but was unable to get the breakthrough goal. In the first stanza, the Tribe out-shot the Purple Eagles, 8-4, with three of those shots being on-goal. At halftime, the match was tied, 0-0.

In the second half, the Green and Gold kept on the attack, but were still unable to get on the board. The College would out-shoot Niagara in the second frame, 14-8, but were never able to get one in the back of the net.

Despite being out-shot, the Purple Eagles managed to get a goal in the 73rd minute from Levi Tesch that would end up being the game-winner.

Leading the Tribe’s offense in the match was junior forward Alan Koger, who had a team-high five shots, three of which were on-frame.

In spite of the loss, two William and Mary players were named to the All-Tournament team. Senior Andrew Hoxie and junior Mike DiNuzzo each earned the honor.

The William and Mary Tribe men’s soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, September 19, when the College travels to Washington D.C. to take on American University.
