Tribe Beats Drexel in Regular-Season Finale, 3-1

Philadelphia, Pa. - The William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Drexel. With the win, the Tribe ends the regular season with a 13-4-1 record overall and an 8-2-1 record in the CAA.

Box Score

With the victory, the College extended its unbeaten streak to six matches and also clinched the #2-seed in the CAA tournament.

The Tribe received goals from seniors Andrew Hoxie and Price Thomas, while junior Nat Baako scored the game-winner in the 78th minute. Junior goalkeeper Andrew McAdams made five saves in the winning effort.

The College wasted little time getting on the board against the Dragons, scoring in the eighth minute. On the attack, Thomas dribbled down the left side of the box looking for an opportunity. Thomas saw an opening, firing a shot towards goal, beating the Drexel keeper to the left. Thomas' seventh goal of the season gave the Tribe a 1-0 lead.

The Green and gold would not be able to keep the lead, however, as Nathan Page scored a game-tying goal in the 29th minute to even the match at 1-1.

Neither team would be able to score a second goal in the first frame, and the match would go into the half tied at 1-1. In the first stanza, Drexel out-shot the Tribe, 11-8, but the Tribe was able to get more shots on-goal, 6-5.

In the second half against the Dragons, the Tribe's offense kept attacking, looking for the breakthrough. In the 78th minute, the Tribe would get the game-winner it was looking for. After a header from senior Roger Bothe was saved the Drexel keeper, Baako collected the rebound, blasting it into the back of the net. Baako's second goal of the season gave the College a 2-1 lead.

The Tribe would add an insurance goal in the 85th minute, when after Drexel was called for a foul inside the 18-yard box, Hoxie converted the penalty kick. Hoxie's conference-leading 10th goal of the season gave the Tribe its winning margin of 3-1.

With the regular season now complete, the William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team will turn its attention to the CAA Tournament. The Tribe will play the #3-seeded Northeastern Huskies on Friday, November 13, in the CAA tournament semifinals. Time for the match is yet to be announced.
