Tribe Sets Three School Records Friday Night at CAA Championships

Fairfax, Va. - The William and Mary Tribe men’s swimming and diving team continued to rewrite the College’s record book on Friday night, setting three more school records on Friday night at the CAA Championships. Heading into the final day, the Tribe remains in fifth place with 295.5 points.

After setting the school record earlier in the day, sophomore Jake Maloy broke it again Friday night, placing third in the championship final of the 100 back with a record time of 49.78. In the consolation final of the event, freshman Sidney Glass came in third place, while classmate Kyle McVeigh finished right behind him in fourth.
The next school record to fall came in the 200 free, when sophomore Stephen Fay touched the wall in third place in the championship final with a time of 1:38.37, eclipsing the 12-year old record previously held by Chris Robinson. Also in the championship final, sophomore Luke Robbins placed fifth with a personal-best time of 1:40.45, solidifying him in fifth place all-time in school history.
Senior Kevin Gallagher won the consolation final of the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:41.11, while junior Michael Naccarelli came in sixth with a season-best time of his own, 1:42.86.
The final William and Mary school record to fall came in the 800 free relay, when the team of Gallagher, Robbins, freshman Hunter Perrot, and Fay earned a silver medal with their record time of 6:41.36.
In the other relay of the night, the 200 medley relay, the Tribe quartet of Glass, junior Jim Fenningham, Maloy, and redshirt-freshman Max Glober placed third with a great team effort, timing in at 1:31.43. With their time, the relay team now ranks second all-time in W&M history.
In the championship final of the 400 individual medley, freshman K.J. Shaw finished seventh with a personal-best time of 4:04.11, while classmate Jesse Cunningham placed eighth in a time of 4:06.09. With his time, Shaw improves his standing in seventh place all-time in school history in the event.
In the consolation final of the 100 fly, senior Kevin Lynch came in fifth with a time of 50.71, while Maloy placed sixth with a personal-best time of 50.85, ranking him sixth all-time in school history.
In the B-final of the 100 breast, Shaw touched the wall in a personal-best time of 58.01 to place sixth, while Fenningham finished in eighth with a time of 58.29. Shaw’s time ranks the rookie sixth all-time in W&M history.
The William and Mary Tribe men’s swimming and diving team will look to make a charge on the final day of the CAA Championships Saturday. Preliminary swims begin at 10 a.m. with the evening session scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
