Shaffrey, Junior Earn CAA Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. (April 28, 2014)—After posting impressive performances in the William and Mary lacrosse team's victory against Old Dominion on Saturday, junior Ellen Shaffrey and freshman Abby Junior earned weekly awards from the Colonial Athletic Association. Shaffrey was honored as the league's defensive player of the week, while Junior was chosen as the rookie of the week.

Shaffrey registered an outstanding all-around performance in the victory against ODU, as she equaled a career high with seven draw controls while also totaling a team-high four ground balls. The Charlottesville, Va., native also added a goal and a caused turnover. The seven draw controls ranks tied for the third-best single-game performance in school history, while the effort helped her break the single-season school record for draw controls (54).

Junior collected her second rookie of the week accolade of the season after totaling two ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover in the win versus ODU. The Wayne, Pa., native finished the regular season ranked fifth in the CAA in caused turnovers per game (1.44).
