Meghan McGovern (North Wales, Pa.) finished up her season Saturday night at the NCAA Eastern Semifinals, taking 29th overall in the 5,000m run. The top 12 finishers earned a spot at the NCAA Finals in two weeks, and it took 16:09.74 to earn that honor.
Complete ResultsMcGovern crossed the finish line in 16:41.45, and improved her seeding coming into the race by nine spots. Her time was also nearly 20 seconds better than she ran last season in this race. Her season also included her second-straight CAA title in the 5,000m, again with a meet-record, and a fourth-place showing at the ECAC outdoor championships. McGovern set lifetime-bests both indoors and out in every event, including 16:24.76 in the 5,000m and 9:26.39 in the 3,000m, both in the last month. Her performance Saturday night also made it official that five of six W&M athletes who competed this weekend improved their seed by at least nine places (the only one who didn't was seeded third, and finished third).
W&M will wrap up the collegiate season in two weeks, at the NCAA Finals hosted by the University of Oregon. The Tribe will have a pair of athletes competing in the women's 10,000m, which will run at 7:15 p.m. Pacific (10:15 p.m. Eastern) on Thursday, June 12.
