Tribe Football’s Steve Cluley Earns Rookie Mini Camp Invite with N.Y. Giants

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 11, 2017) — Former William & Mary all-conference quarterback Steve Cluley has earned a rookie mini camp invite with the New York Giants.

Cluley is among a group of five Tribe players who finished their collegiate careers this fall and will begin pursuing their professional aspirations, as All-America offensive tackle Jerry Ugokwe signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts while Kendell Anderson (Atlanta Falcons), Hunter Windmuller (Washington Redskins) and Kevin Hart (Pittsburgh Steelers) earned rookie mini camp invites.

The quintet will look to join seven former Tribe players who are currently on NFL rosters – Jerome Couplin III (Los Angeles Rams), DeAndre Houston-Carson (Bears), Jonathan Grimes (Houston Texans), Sean Lissemore (San Diego Chargers), Tre McBride (Tennessee Titans), Luke Rhodes (Colts) and B.W. Webb (Chicago Bears).

One of the most productive quarterbacks in school history, Cluley finished his career by making 35 consecutive starts – the most by a Tribe signal caller since David Corley logged 41 straight starts from 1999-02.

The Manasquan, N.J., native concluded his career ranked among the program's top-10 in seven categories – sixth in passing yards (6,864), sixth in total offense (7,128), fourth in passing attempts (959), third in passing completions (577), tied for fifth in completion percentage (60.2), eighth in passing touchdowns (39) and seventh in 200-yard passing performances (16).

Cluley's best season with the Tribe came during his junior campaign when he earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors after completing 222 of 354 passes for 2,768 yards with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His 212.9 passing yards per game ranked second in the CAA, while his completion percentage (.627) led the conference and ranked 20th nationally.

Cluley owns the single-game school record for completion percentage (91.3), which he set against Towson in 2015 when he completed 21 of 23 passes. Additionally, he posted a pair of impressive stretches of 176 and 138 consecutive passing attempts without an interception.

An outstanding leader, Cluley served as a team captain during his senior season.
