Deedee Helfrich Anderson, Field Hockey, Basketball, Lacrosse, 1969
One of the greats of the women's athletics department at William & Mary, the late Deedee Helfrich Anderson earned varsity letters in three sports in her time on campus.
Her most distinguished playing career came as a member of the field hockey program where she earned four varsity letters and scored 14 career goals. She was recognized as one of the top players in the Tidewater region for four straight seasons, including twice being named to first team honors. She ended her career by being named to first-team All-Southeast Region recognition.
Helfrich Anderson also played four seasons as a member of the Tribe's lacrosse program. While complete statistics are not available from her career, she was credited with at least 13 career goals. She was named to first-team all-state honors as a senior.
She also lettered one season as a member of the women's basketball squad.
Post graduation, athletics remained a life-long passion. She shared her love of competition with generations of young women as a coach in all three sports she competed in collegiately, while also being a mathematics teacher.
