Kurt Wrigley, 1983
One of the first 'featured' receivers in W&M Head Coach
Jimmye Laycock's offensive system, Kurt Wrigley set a high standard for generations of players to follow.
Wrigley made an immediate impact, as he was named the ECAC Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1980. The following season, he set W&M's single-game record for receiving yards with 211 (on 11 catches) against Richmond in 1981. The performance has stood the test of time, as the catch total remains in fifth place and the receiving yards stand seventh. Wrigley turned in a three-touchdown performance that same season against East Carolina, a total that is tied for 4th all-time.
In his junior season he established a then single-season school record with 911 total receiving yards. This effort still ranks 10th all-time in the W&M record books.
Wrigley graduated with 1,986 career-receiving yards, which was the second-best career total at the time and it remains the 13th highest total in school history. He established the school's career record with 141 receptions, which remains 10th all-time, while his 15 career receiving touchdowns placed him second at graduation and remains 12th all-time.
After graduation, the Pottstown, Pa., native started a office supply business with two former teammates (Jeff Wood '84 and Drew Sharp '84). Wrigley has continued in the industry ever since and currently holds a position for Staples, Inc..
He is the proud father of two daughters, Devin, 26, and Victoria, 24, and one son, Scott, 24.
